Jan grew up in the dog world. Her mum Alison is a life member of Dogs Victoria and they now breed Cardigan Welsh Corgis under the Llandaff prefx and having bred Pembroke Welsh Corgis for many years. Jan was among the frst to have her breeding stock tested for PRA when the genetic test became available in 1998 and has since imported several dogs and semen to increase the gene pool. Jan is a lecturer (Assoc Prof) in the School of Life and Environmental Sciences at Deakin University and teaches human physiology to second year science students. Several of the dogs have featured in a lecture series centered on the reproductive physiology and technology involved in artifcial insemination and prenatal development. Jan was appointed as a trustee and University Liaison Officer to the Canine Research Foundation in 2014.
