Julia Smith

   

Julia has been "owned and loved" by Samoyeds for more than 40 years, and her longstanding passion for canine health and wellbeing makes her proud to serve as a Director of the Canine Research Foundation. A current member of Dogs Queensland, former member of Dogs Victoria, Dogs ACT and Dogs New Zealand, a former Vice President, Treasurer/Secretary and Committee Member of Samoyed Breed clubs in Australia and New Zealand - she has a strong interest in canine health, responsible breeding and long-term breed welfare.

 

Julia holds a BCom and is a FCPA with more than 30 years of leadership experience across governance, strategy, commercial and regulated environments in Australia and New Zealand. She has held Chair, Board Member and C-suite roles across healthcare, veterinary and other complex sectors, and brings extensive expertise in financial stewardship, risk oversight, governance and stakeholder engagement.

 

Her Board experience includes 12 years across eight boards, including seven years as a Non-Executive Director of Veterinary Specialists Aotearoa Imaging, the radiology division of New Zealand's largest veterinary specialist group. A career highlight was helping co-create New Zealand's first high-tech radiology and diagnostic service for companion animals, expanding access to advanced veterinary imaging and treatment services.

 

Julia is passionate about contributing her skills to support high-quality canine health research and the careful stewardship of the Foundation's resources.
