About us
Raised in England, as a child I always loved animals and had ponies, dogs (in particular, a Jack Russell Terrier who ruled the roost for 17 years) and a variety of other pets (including a small tortoise now about 70 yrs old). I fell in love with pointers after meeting a friend’s lemon one who came from a rescue organization. However, it was not until many years later in Australia that I had the time and opportunity to indulge my dreams of owning a pointer. I established my prefix, Aspenlea Pointers, in 1988. Since then, I have been actively involved with pointers for more than 30 years and still believe they are the dog world's best kept secret!
Not a very common breed, I am often asked whether my black and white pointers are dalmatians (sigh - thanks Walt Disney!) or whippets/greyhounds (because of their sleek lines). It's a great excuse to educate people about this wonderful breed and what they were originally bred to do, which was working birds in the field.
Currently, I am a Senior Instructor with the oldest dog club in Canberra and help train handlers from puppy class up to trialling level. I still enjoy expanding my knowledge on positive training methods and learning about new disciplines and sports that I can enjoy with my dogs, no matter what their age.
