Jack Russell Racing

Jack Russell Racing days hosted by the Jack Russell Terrier Club of NSW are a fun day out for all the family.

Our Jack Russell companions compete in a number of races down the 100m track, cheered on by family, friends and onlookers.

By the end of the day, the Jack Russells are ready for a sleep, after chasing the lure and often making some bonus dog and human friends.

Please visit the Club Calendar of Events or The Jack Russell Terrier Club of NSW Facebook Group to find the next scheduled Jack Russell Racing event.

How it works

Once each Jack Russell has a muzzle and a racing jacket, they head down to the starting boxes ready for their race.

When the race number on the jacket is called, all dogs are loaded into the starting boxes. Then the lure begins to move up the 100m race track and the dogs are released, chasing the lure to the finish line and their families to catch them.

The dogs will have the chance to run in multiple races during the day, in both the 100m straight race and the 100m hurdles.

FAQs

Question Answer
Does my dog need to be purebred to race? No, we welcome all Jack Russell types. As long as your dog is predominantly Jack Russell and looks like a Jack Russell, they can join in the racing.
Why do the dogs wear muzzles? All dogs are required to wear a muzzle for safety, as racing activates the dog's prey drive. The muzzle keeps other dogs and handlers safe as dogs can get very excited when racing.
How do I pay for racing? A link will be shared on The Jack Russell Terrier Club of NSW Group Facebook Event for pre-registration through Show Manager. Cash registrations will also be accepted on the day.
Does each dog need to be a Member of the Club? Membership is mandatory, to participate in Jack Russell Racing. The dogs owner/s become a Racing Member or Full Member of the Club - this covers all dogs owned by that person/those people.
Does my dog need to be on a lead? Dogs need to remain on their leads at all times, except when racing. This includes when playing and making new friends.
