On a beautiful day, at the Bill Spilstead Complex, I was delighted to judge the 112th Championship Show, dedicated to Glenda Golding. I had the pleasure of knowing her many years ago and felt honored to be judging this special show. One of the highlights of this beagle entry was the preponderance of pretty heads, fairly large dark to hazel eyes giving most exhibits an appealing soft expression not always seen in some countries. Although there were some lovely males, considering the total entry, I felt that the overall strength could be found in the bitches. Happy to see nearly all exhibits had short weatherproof coats.
Baby Puppy Dog
1st GWNTAF LONE SURVIVOR (AI)
Balanced baby boy with a pretty head, good shoulders and tailset . Ribbed well back with short loin. Up on leg with adequate bone at this age. Moved happily around the ring.
2nd DANDANGADALE JULEBRUS
Pretty head, scissor bite. A little longer in loin than 1st place puppy. did not move as well as 1st place.
Minor Puppy Dog
1st GIBBGRAN IGNITE THE SPARK
A compact puppy with balanced head, lovely neck, with good shoulders and return of upper arm. Well ribbed back and short loin. Moved truly showing reach and drive but a little high in the rear at this age.
2nd SZKARLAT ROCKET RACCOON
Balanced had and scissor bite. a little wrinkle at this stage. A straighter shoulder and longer loin however had balanced angulation fore and aft.
Puppy Dog
1st OROBAY HEAVEN SENT
Pretty head with lovely earset. A little straighter in shoulder than I would have liked. Good length of ribbing and short loin. Nicely up on leg and moved truly keeping a level topline around the ring.
2nd DANDANGADALE PADDINGTON.
Very pretty head with scissor bite, Better angulation than 1st place winner with good length of ribcage and short loin. Did not move truly coming and going.
Junior Dog
1st UNEETOILE MR TURN TH PAIGE
Well balanced dog pleasing head and earset. Lovely neck that blended smoothly into topline Good forechest and angulation fore and aft with chest well let down and ribs extending back. Moved truly coming and going and gaited smoothly around the ring.
Intermediate Dog
1st BALDEV UNDER PRESSURE
Compact dog with pleasing expression Correct earset and lovely dark eye. Good topline and tail set. Hocks well let down. True coming and going keeping his topline on the move.
2nd. CH DEVMA TIME TRAVELLER (AI)
Another dog with a lovely expression Good round bone and with tight feet. Well ribbed back and muscled loin. Showed well and on the day I found this a difficult decision to make.
State Bred Dog
1st CH CLIFTOP SAY YOU WANT ME
Lovely balanced dog with a lovely expression Balanced in both fore quarters and rear allowing him to move well. Both coming and going he was true and kept his top-line on the move. A little inclined to knuckle in front on the stack.
Australian Bred Dog
1st BALDEV BANDIT
Balanced dog with a mild, pleasing expression Good round bone that did not taper off. Ribs well sprung and extended well lback. Moved beautifully around the ring showing extension and drive.
2nd HOUNDBROOK CAPTAIN JACK
Pleasing head, square muzzle, good ear set. Ribbed well back and good muscled loin. Moved truly coming and going. Looked a little high in the rear when moving around the ring.
3rd CH DEVMA THE DIPLOMAT.
Balanced head with correct stop and scissor bite. Good front assembly. Moved well but loin a little longer than I would prefer.

1st CH HOUDBROOK BUSTER MOON
Pleasing expression, balanced head, ample spring of rib, good bone and tight feet. Moved well fore and aft and showed reach and drive going around the ring.
2nd LUKARA GHOST RIDER
Attractive expression, balanced head with scissor bite. Pleasing front angulation in concert with rear. Good bone. Moved well around the ring but was a little close coming and going.
Open Dog
1st GRAND CH ALMANZOR WIND ME UP WATCHME
Pleasing head, good earset and soft expression completed his head Angulation front and rear matched allowing him to move flawlessly around the ring showing beautiful extension and drive Lovely neck set smoothly into shoulders. Good round bone, and correct coat. Would have liked a slightly higher tailset.
2nd SUPCH BEAGLYN FOREIGN ADVENTURE (AI)
Another lovely beagle male. Close competition to 1st place winner. Balanced head, scissor bite and correct earset. A melting expression. Lovely neck and good topline. Good bone and moved truly showing reach and drive.
3rd SUP CH LET IT RAIN
Pleasing head with soft expression.A little shorter in rib cage than 1st and 2nd place winners. Moved well around the ring.
Baby Puppy Bitch
1st KUNANYI NORTH STAR
Well put together baby who carried herself like a pro. Pretty head, square muzzle and good earset. Lovely neck joined seamlessly with her well laid back shoulders. Chest well let down and extending back. Short loin with rear angulation matching front assembly. Held her tail a little high at times. Good mover keeping her top-line.
Minor Puppy Bitch
1st GIBBGRAN FIRE FLY
Pretty head, well balanced. Shoulders nicely laid back with good return of upper arm. Round bone and tight feet. Good ribbing and chest well sprung. Rear angulation in balance with front. Moved truly fore and aft but a little high in the rear at this age.
2nd DANDANGADALE PRISCILLA
Pretty soft expression, balanced head. A little straighter in shoulder than 1st place winner Ribs well sprung but could extend further back. Pleasing rear assembly. Moved well around the ring but, at this age, a little loose in front when coming towards you.
Puppy Bitch
1st CH HOUNDBROOK PRINCESS LEIA
A difficult decision between these two puppies. Lovely head with pleasing expression. Good square jaw and scissor bite. Lovely set on of ears that were fine in texture. A balanced puppy. Chest well let down but could extend a little further back. Good return of upper arm. Moved well around the ing.
2nd JOHGRA QUEENS GAMBIT
Pretty feminine head, melting expression, balanced with correct ear set. Lovely neck with smooth transition into shoulders. Ribbed well back and with correct topline on the move. Showed extension and drive.
Junior Bitch
1st LUKARA TAKE MY BREATH AWAY
Pretty bitch with clean lines. Well proportioned head with melting expression Good shoulders and chest well let down A little long in loin. Smooth topline and excellent tail set. Moved well both coming and going keeping her topline level around the ring.
2nd ALMANZOR TOOT MY HORN.
Pretty head with soft expression. Nice balance with muzzle and stop to occiput. Chest well let down and ribbed well back. Short loin. Kept her topline on the move but moved close behind when moving away.
Intermediate Bitich
1st CLARION COME DOLLY LET’S DANCE.
Very soft expression, lovely dark eyes, balanced head with good ear set. Neck set into lovely clean shoulders. Front angulation matched rear . Excellent tail set. Moved truly coming and going and made a pretty picture going around the ring showing perfect reach and drive rarely seen these days.
2nd HOUNGBROOK THENA
Pleasing expression with a balanced head. Could be a little more up on leg. Chest well let down and ribbed adequately back. A little heavy at this time.
3rd DEVMA TIMELESS DESIGN (AI)
Attractive beagle head with well set ears. A little loose at elbows, good bone. Did not move as well as the first two bitches.
State Bred Bitch
1st JOHGRA PURPLE REIGN
Beautifully balanced feminine bitch that moved truly and kept her topline around the ring. Lovely neck that joined clean shoulders. Good bone and tight feet. Soft expression from dark eyes, ears set on low that framed a balnced head. Correct tail set.
2nd CH BRIALEY CH SO POSH.
Another balanced bitch with a pleasing expression Not as compact as 1st. Chest let down to below elbow and ribs well sprung. Moved well around the ring but a little wide in front coming and going.
Australian Bred Bitch
1st CH LUKARA BBS LEGACY
Pretty well balanced head with a melting expression. Lovely neck melded into good shoulders Legs well under her body. Well ribbed back but would like a little shorter loin. Powerful rear matched her pleasing front angulation Moved well.
2nd CH DEVMA DEFIANT
Another pleasing bitch with a sweet head. Lovely arch on her neck which joined clean shoulders. Could have a better return of upper arm. Well ribbed back with a short muscular loin. Rear a little high on the move.
3rd ALAMAZOR HOW YOU LIKE ME NOW(AI)
Balanced bitch with nice square muzzle. would like a little more defined stop. Forequarters balanced with her hind assembly. Nicely ribbed back, good tail set, moved truly around the ring.

1st CH GIBBGRAN GOODNESS ME
Beautiful feminine bitch with lovely proportions. Showed the correct reach and drive, you so rarely see, due to her correctly laid back shoulders, return of upper arm and matching rear angulation. Lovely balance. Chest well sprung and correctly let down to below the elbow. Ribs extended. A well deserved Runner Up in Show.
2nd DANDANGADALE KIWI MEMORIES Balanced head with pleasing expression. Lovely length of neck. Straighter in shoulder and a little light on in substance. Ribs could extend further back. Rear angulation was balanced with the front and she moved truly.
3rd HEBRIDEAN JUBILEE QUEEN. Head with a soft expression Good ear set and lovely dark nose for a bicolour. Chest well let down but ribs did not extend far enough back. Long in loin. Hindquarters a little straight.
Open Bitch
1st CH SUP. JOHGRA SUMMER IN PARIS
To begin, I must say, she took my breath away. Total quality from her head to tail. Lovely feminine head in correct proportions. Melting expression from dark eyes, So beautifully put together that my hands just flowed over her. Beautifully angulated shoulders matched her rear angulation. Chest let down to below elbow, extended well back and was completed with a short loin. A perfect topline. Fore and aft she did not put a foot wrong but watching her gait around the ring so effortlessly with reach and drive, rarely seen these days, was an absolute delight. MY BEST IN SHOW
Neuter Dog
1st AUST CH CULORGAIR FORFILNOR.
Balanced head with pleasing eye and good pigmentation. Average shoulders but good return of upper arm Moved truly fore and aft.
2nd WILLGARET SCRAMBLER SWA TK.S.
Another bicolor beagle with good pigmentation Head a little more than I prefer. Good depth of chest, a little long in lion. Nicely up on leg.
Neuter Bitch
1st. AUST CH CULORGAIR FOREFILNOR
Pleasing expression. A little straighter in shoulder . Well ribbed back. Kept her topline on the move. True coming and going.
2nd CHHEBBRIDEAN HOCUS POCUS
Pushed 1st place winner. Pretty head with good earset. Nice neck showing crest. Well up on leg. Ribs sprung and ribbed back. A little straighter in the rear. Moved truly.
3rd CH CULORGAIR FORLUKARA
Head with soft expression, balanced . Good return of upper arm. A little too long in the loin. Good tailset.
