About Bantaskin Kennel

My name is Janis Thomson. I moved from Adelaide to live my dream on 16 acres in country Victoria.

I first showed a Labrador in 1968. My father bought her for me. I was about 14. So I have a huge emotional attachment to Labradors. 

I have owned Labradors and many other breeds. Many of them rescues.
I started breeding pedigree Labradors when I was given that opportunity in 2014.

I've wanted to since I got my first Labrador Kadlinga Donna Leandra. Daughter of two famous south Australian show dogs

Karnmore  Ruler and Kadlinga Kontessa. Both champions. 

I just love having my dogs.

I have now been breeding for 10 years. Have had my own dog(s) for 54 years.

I myself have 40 years nursing experience - the last 15 in critical care. I feel human nursing skills helps me with the care of my dogs. I've always been interested in midwifery so I'm interested in the care of my girls at all times but developing slightly different pregnancy and birthing / whelping skills.

My dogs have hip and elbow X-rays at 12 months of age and full genetic testing. They also have current eye certificates.

They receive the best care I can provide -which includes top quality food as assessed by scientific research and myself. Vet attention is sought as required and prevention of issues is a priority. They watch tv with me on the couch - lots of cuddles-taking turns to sleep on the bed  -exercise on my acreage which includes swimming in the dam.

I'm careful not to overdo exercise with them (eg chasing balls) but they are walked most days by me and also get more running around with the other dogs. My yard is like a big dog park without strange dogs.

Puppies are born in my house - they stay there in the Whelping box till they are able to climb out of the whelping box and then they have their own room and access to the sheltered back verandah and the enclosed large leafy back yard.

I also do superdog training with them early on- recommended to me by a trainer who heads the organisation training dogs for assistance for PTSD.

Some of my dogs are helping in the areas of epilepsy, autism, emotional support and physical disability.
