About us
Dompetan Golden Retrievers and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels is an Australia National Kennel Club (ANKC) registered kennel, passionate about breeding healthy, sound, purebred dogs with gentle, happy, confident temperaments and longevity.
We have been involved with Goldens since 1988 and Cavaliers since 1996, with an emphasis on preserving and improving these breeds.
We health test all breeding stock.
Our Goldens health tests incude-
Yearly eye tests by specialists opthalmologists using the ACES testing scheme,
Heart check by specialist cardiologist,
Hip and elbow scoring under the CHEDS testing scheme,
Full DNA panel for all relavant issues that affect the breed including progressive retinol atrophy, ichthyosis and others.
Our Cavaliers health tests include-
Regular eye tests by specialist opthalmologist using the ACES testing scheme,
Yearly heart test by specialist cardiologist,
MRI scan to check for the presence of Syringomyelia (SM) and Chiara-like malformation (CM),
DNA profile for the relevant issues that affect the breed includinf Episodic falling syndrome, dry eye, curly coat and others.
Testing is not just a health check completed by a local vet. All certificates and health test results are available to view.
We only have one or occassionally two litters a year, always looking to improve and strengthen with each generation.
Puppies are raised in the home using the world renowned Puppy Culture method; which includes ENS, socialisation, neutral exposure with daily training and enrichment. Examples can be viewed on our facebook page - "Dompetan Golden Retrievers and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels"
The dogs that stay with us are involved in conformation (showing), and other dog sports including Agility, Tricks, Rally and Scent work. Our Cavaliers are involved in Pets as therapy and visit residents local aged care faciities and hospitals. Our adult dogs live with us in our home. They are not confined in kennels for any long periods.
We keep up to date with any new developements in the breed. We are currently following the EG gene in Cavaliers, in it's very early stages of research. We have met so many people, from all around the world and are very honoured to have been able to collaborate with so many knowledgable people who share the same interests.
We would never promise that our puppies are free of health issues. Genetics and environment play a huge part in a dogs health and developement. We absolutelly do our best to try.
We offer a lifetime of support and if needed we are happy to take any puppy back if circumstances require. We do ask lots of questions of you and love getting questions from you. This ensures the puppy is the right fit for you and that puppy has the best possible outcomes and a great life. We also generally like to choose your puppy for you by matching the puppies personality to yours and your lifestyle, again this delivers the best outcomes for everyone.
