Our Story

BAYKALSKEE is a small kennel situated on 5 acres in the beautiful Upper Hunter Valley, NSW, Australia. Our home is surrounded by exquisite wineries and highly respected horse studs. Our names are Craig and Jayne Schmarr and we are members of and registered breeders with DOGS NSW. We abide by DOGS NSW Code of Ethics whole-heartedly and support the organisation in their promotion of healthy, sound pedigree dogs.

Our Siberians & Cavaliers are precious family members and are included in all aspects of our life. They are raised in a loving, caring, protective family home where they are provided with many opportunities to explore the world around them thus becoming confident, well socialised and happy Siberians & Cavaliers. Our Siberians run together on our small property behind secure fencing. Our Cavaliers have their very own special play area where they chase butterflies and frolick together. Our dogs live in our home and often found curled up together on the lounge.

The Siberians..........

We have been involved in showing dogs since 1988 and specifically Siberian Huskies since December, 1995 when we became the proud owners of a delightful black and white puppy whom we named 'Holley' from Chalariz Kennels in NSW. We showed Holley successfully throughout NSW towards her Australian Champion title awarded in 1997. Holley went everywhere with us and it wasn't long before we decided to purchase another Siberian. In 1997 along came a cuddly, smoochy grey and white puppy whom we named 'Greta'. Our love for the breed has just grown and grown.

Our Siberians are bred on a very limited basis ensuring QUALITY not quantity. We aim to produce Siberian Huskies that are: free of genetic problems, display correct conformation and sound structure, superb movement, have excellent temperaments, wonderful health and are true to standard. All BAYKALSKEE Siberians are hip scored and eye tested ensuring only the healthiest Siberians are bred from and produced. Our puppies are registered, microchipped, wormed and vaccinated. Our breeding is based upon successful lines from Canada and the USA. We are endeavoring to improve our breed, constantly trying to create better, sounder Siberians and therefore produce QUALITY Siberians.

The Cavaliers..........

In 2001 we travelled to New Zealand where we met two lovely ladies, Laraine Houtus & Jan McPherson and fell in love with their gorgeous Cavaliers. Not long after we returned home 'Toby' , a beautiful blenheim boy, came to join our family and with his visit we have discovered the joys such a little breed can bring to our home. Throughout 2002 we learnt a lot about the Cavalier and enjoyed campagining Toby successfully along side our Siberians to his Australian Champion title. In June 2003 Toby returned home to New Zealand.

During 2003 two gorgeous blenheim girls joined our home to help fill the void Toby left, 'Penne' from Merseyport Kennels in NSW and 'Gracie' from Winfern Kennels in New Zealand. We enjoyed showing them and promoting both Merseyport and Winfern Kennels throughout NSW. In 2005 we bred our first Cavalier litter under the BAYKALSKEE prefix, we kept a boy 'Harry' who was owned by my neice in Qld. From our second litter we kept a blenheim girl called 'Minnie' who was a darling to show and was our FIRST BAYKALSKEE Australian CHAMPION Cavalier.

In 2008, after admiring the wholecolours, especially black & tans for many years, we welcomed our FIRST black & tan cavalier 'Sadie' from Matmor Kennels, VIC. In 2010 we bred our first wholecolour litter and kept a super little ruby called 'Summer'. In 2011 we welcomed a blenheim girl to our team, Daphnee from Coloora Kennels, NSW.

Our Cavaliers are eye and heart tested by Veternarian Specialists and DNA tested for episodic falling syndrome and dry-eye/curly-coat syndrome. We pride ourselves on producing happy and healthy Cavaliers.

We love and simply adore our Siberians and Cavaliers, many of which we have bred under our prefix BAYKALSKEE. We both juggle hectic work schedules to ensure our dogs have the most devoted 'parents'. We have continued to enjoy travelling around NSW exhibiting our Siberians and Cavaliers, making new friends, catching up with old ones, spending time with our girls and boys and revelling in the simple pleasures of life like love & good health.   Our devotion and dedication to Siberian Huskies and Cavaliers reflects our passion for both breeds.

We no longer breed Siberian Huskies or Cavalier KCS,  preferring to actively and very proudly campaign six wholecolour cavaliers for the highly sucessful and well-respected MATMOR Kennels (Vic) throughout NSW..
