Chihuahua
Appearance
The Chihuahua can be any colour or combination of colours except merle. Chihuahua are small compact dogs with erect ears, an apple dome head, round eyes, a slightly arched neck, a muscular body which is slightly longer then their height and their tail is carried up over their back. Chihuahua come in smooth coat or long coat.
Life Span
The Chihuahua is one of the longest living dogs with an average lifespan of 15 yrs. But it is not unusual for a well bred and cared for Chihuahua to live for 20 years plus.
Temperament
Intelligent, loyal, willing to learn, protective of their family.
Size
Chihuahua's are part of the Toy group of dogs. When fully grown most chihuahua's are between 1.8-3 kgs.
Chihuahua History
The true origins of this breed are unknown but it is believed they descended from a breed of dog called the Techichi which were bred by a tribe who lived near Mexico.
Some excavations in Egypt have unearthed the mummified remains of very small dogs dating back to over 3000 years
Another belief is that Chinese traders bought the Chihuahua to Mexico.
Tourists bought Chihuahua's to America in the mid 1800's
The Chihuahua breed was bought to Australia in 1955 by Mrs E.M. MacMahon of Victoria. These four original Chihuahua's that established the famous Chicdale breeding line.
